Welcome to the City of Owensboro's Brownfields Program. The City of Owensboro was selected in April 2008 as a recipient of $600,000 in federal funds from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to clean up three properties located in the heart of Owensboro's downtown area.

Hazardous substance funding will be used to clean up the former Jackson's Pronto Cleaners from dry cleaning chemicals and by-products found in the site soil and groundwater, as well as two adjacent properties.

Environmental Cleanup at Jackson's Pronto Cleaners Delayed

The environmental cleanup taking place at the former Jackson's Pronto Cleaners in Owensboro, Kentucky has been delayed due to the discovery of a much larger plume of contaminated groundwater than what was originally expected.

Working with the Kentucky Department of Environmental Protection and the Region 4 EPA Project Officer, the City obtained a one-year extension to the grant in order to address the larger groundwater issue.

A modified Remedial Action Project Plan is currently being prepared. Read more...

Clean-up Efforts Underway in Owensboro, Kentucky

The City of Owensboro's brownfield cleanup project is well underway. Under the City's consultant CTC Public Benefit Corporation's oversight, demolition crews began removing the former Jackson's Pronto Cleaners located in downtown Owensboro. Read more...

	Jackson's Pronto Cleaners Before Demolition This dry cleaner facility operated from 1954 to 2000. Previous environmental investigations documented dry cleaning chemicals and byproducts in both soil and groundwater beneath the site. Preliminary cleanup plans include demolition of the existing building followed by cleanup and/or removal of impacted soils.
	Jackson's Pronto Cleaners After Demolition All site structures have been demolished and the property compacted and graded. Soil remediation efforts are currently underway at the property.
