City of Harlem Preparing to Conduct Environmental Site Assessments

Summary: The City of Harlem is preparing to conduct two Phase II Environmental Site Assessments at key properties located within the City.

Don't be surprised if you see drill rigs and workers in hard hats conducting environmental sampling along Harlem's main thoroughfares in the next few months. As part of the City's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) funded brownfields assessment grant, two properties are slated for Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs). The Phase II ESAs are being conducted on properties where there is a suspicion, or concern, of environmental contamination. The soil and groundwater sampling conducted as part of these Phase II ESAs will confirm the absence or presence of environmental contamination.

Field work is scheduled to commence early this summer with results anticipated by mid-July. The planned field work will answer some environmental uncertainties associated with the past uses of the properties as they move towards redevelopment.

Please contact any member of the project team if you have any questions.
