Fly Ash Cleanup Begins

EMES, LLC will begin removing fly ash from the former Riegle Textile Mill fly ash landfill on Monday, July 28, 2008.

Summary: Under the supervision of the Town of Wares Shoals and their contractor, Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC), EMES, LLC will begin removing the fly ash from the former landfill site near the Saluda River on July 28, 2008. The Town was awarded a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfield Cleanup Grant in 2007 to cleanup the fly ash from the former operations of the Riegel Textile Mill.

The cleanup of the fly ash is expected to take approximately 20 days and will remove approximately 1,000 tons of material. The material will be removed from the site and transported to the Greenwood County Landfill.
