EPA Brownfield Grants
Brownfields blight communities across the U.S. These abandoned and underutilized sites hamper economic development.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) provides local governments with a series of Brownfield Grants to address these sites, including Brownfield
Assessment Grants, Brownfield Cleanup Grants, Brownfield Revolving Loan Funds, and Brownfield Job Training Grants. These
EPA Brownfield Grants enable communities to proactively address the challenges associated with assessing and cleaning
brownfield properties.
Problem: Brownfields
Abandoned
and underutilized textile mills, gas stations,
factories and warehouses blight
large and small communities across the
country, hindering local economic development
efforts. The redevelopment of
these properties is often hampered by
real or perceived environmental contamination.
Solution: EPA Brownfield Grants
Since 1995, the U.S. EPA has taken an active
role in addressing the problem of
brownfields in America’s communities.
The agency provides a range of EPA Brownfield Grants
for environmental assessment
and cleanup activities.
When combined with other incentives
and resources, these grant
programs become powerful tools for local
governments in leading redevelopment
efforts in their communities.
The most popular EPA Brownfield Grants are the Brownfield Assessment Grants and the Brownfield Cleanup Grants. Both brownfield grant
programs provide $200,000 for a period of 3 years to assess and cleanup brownfields in local communities. For more information about these and other
EPA Brownfield Grants, see www.epa.gov/brownfields
or download our handout on EPA Brownfield Grants.
