City of Wilson Joins Eastern North Carolina Brownfields Coalistion
Friday, May 22, 2015
The City of Greenville, North Carolina is pleased to introduce the Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) Program and the Eastern North Carolina Brownfields Coalition (ENCBC). The RLF is an incentive to help facilitate redevelopment of brownfield sites by providing financial assistance to public and private brownfields properties for environmental clean-up throughout Pitt, Wilson, and Green counties. The RLF is being funded by a $1,000,000 grant awarded to the ENCBC by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). According to the most current inventory, the City of Wilson has 180 potential Brownfields, 67 of which are in the US 301 corridor area and 96 are in the downtown area. Federal authorities acknowledged that the decline of the tobacco industry and the creation of I-95 drew businesses away from US 301 in the latter part of the 20th century. Citizens, property owners, and interested developers are invited to a public 'kick-off' meeting this Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 5:30pm at fellow ENCBC member the City Greenville's City Hall, Third Floor Conference Room (200 W. Fifth Street). This public meeting will introduce the Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) Program and the Eastern North Carolina Brownfields Coalition (ENCBC). Citizens will have the opportunity to learn about the program and engage in conversation on various topics, such as, what criteria are important to qualify for the program, benefits of clean-up and redevelopment of brownfields, and ideas for potential brownfields properties in the area. For more information, please review the official press release. Read more...
